History
Things to explore and do in Darwin is the World War II secret Oil Storage Tunnels. These giant Darwin tunnels had blood, sweat and tears in the hope, in part, to end the WWII. Made by the Civil Construction Corps.
This now very unique tourist attraction and event location is beside Darwin Wharf Precinct on Kitchener Drive. Reopened in 1992 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Bombing of Darwin. In which 243 people lost there lives. Located beneath the cliffs of Darwin city, just a short walk from the city centre and the Esplanade. Well informed gate keeper provides historical information relating to the concept of the tunnels and plenty of history books are for sale. |
The WWII Tunnels have new photographs and displays of Darwin's rich history during WWII including photos of the brave men and women who served in the protection of our great country, Australia.
